Notes:hydrocephalushydrocephalus is caused by excessive accumulation of fluid in the brain cavities. Patients often have trouble walking, and their ability to think and to remember, is also affected. The fluid can by a shunt, a narrow plastic tube that is surgically inserted into one of the cavities of the brain and are discharged with the stomach or the heart. In some cases, keyhole surgery allow the liquid to be absorbed into the blood stream. Around 400 adults per year receive surgery for various types of hydrocephalus in Sweden.
